Young kids like to put up quite a fuss about going to the dentist. It’s hard to blame them, too, since the dentist’s office is full of sharp-looking things that go into someone’s mouth. Being scared of the dentist is perfectly normal.
What’s also normal, though, is developing a love for dental appointments. Much to the relief of parents everywhere, there’s a few different things you can do to help your kids love the dentists. Yes, it’s possible – we’ve seen it happen here in our practice!
Focus on the rewards
One of the best things you can do to help your kids look forward to a dental office visit is to focus on the rewards they earn after going. Whether it’s a prize or toy from the doctor’s office, or you take them out for a special treat afterward, having a positive incentive after the appointment helps out tremendously when motivating kids to enjoy the dentist.
Talk to them about oral health
If your kids are old enough, talk to them about why it’s important to brush, floss, and visit Dr. Morgan, Dr. Allman, and Dr. Compton at Rockwall Pediatric Dentistry in Rockwall and Heath, Texas. Preventing cavities and keeping a mouth healthy is something a lot of kids – even young ones – can understand.
Be an example
Lastly, make sure that you practice what you preach. If your kids see you taking care of your teeth – and visiting the dentist yourself – they’re much more likely to enjoy their time in the office.
